Michigan Farm House
On this 2022 spring day, our Scholars hopped onto a bus and took a quick road trip to the Tengelsen Farm & Frolic property, about a 2 hour drive from Chicago in Benton Harbor, MI.. As soon as they arrived, there was a lot of running around, tree climbing along with other physical activity led by the Tengelsen Family Scholar’s very own mentor Cortez Cross, and simply indulging in the beautiful Michigan outdoors!
The day was fun-filled, starting off with a series of fitness activities followed by journaling, meditation and yoga/stretching. After that the kids listened to a talk about the richness and diversity of fresh food, as well as the importance of nutrition, from Chicago’s own Pilot Light non-profit organization, whose focus is food education. Once dinnertime rolled around, everyone gathered in the barn for a tasty home-cooked meal created by Pilot Light’s visiting teacher chef, Lisa!
Besides all the active fun, there were also many quiet and peaceful moments spent in rejuvenation. The kids left tired in a good way - which is exactly what we wanted! The day at Farm & Frolic was wonderful. Check out some of the moments below!
