Sarett Nature Center
This January weekend was a special one for our scholars, who were treated to an outdoor adventure at the Sarett Nature Center in Michigan's Benton Harbor. On arrival, Luke from The Collective Rebel Co-Op welcomed them and led a series of warm-up exercises and stretches to prepare the group for their day of snowy activities. With expert instruction from the center’s knowledgeable instructors, the scholars learned all about cross-country skiing, from how to handle the equipment, to different techniques that maximize efficiency. Our scholars were properly prepared to head out into the snow and have some fun - which they did!
After the snow activities, everyone enjoyed a bit of down time with a hot chocolate and snack break. Soon after, the scholars were then given the opportunity to take part in an educational animal presentation, learning more about wildlife and their habitats. For those with a creative side, there was also an art time activity where they could express their unique ideas through painting or drawing. It was a great way for everyone to relax, have fun, and learn something new.
To finish off their day, Luke guided them through a calming meditation and sound bath experience. Everyone settled in, closing their eyes and focusing on their breath as Luke guided them into relaxation. Afterwards, the scholars enjoyed dinner from Blackbird Waterhouse restaurant - an all female-owned business located in Coloma, MI dedicated to creating nourishing meals rooted in sustainability. Another successful Farm & Frolic weekend!
